Welcome to Understanding Zoe. In a few minutes, you'll make your account, set up your own profile, and meet Pip, your coach for everyday life. Here is how.

0:15Making your account

Tap Continue with Email and type your email address. Then add your name, choose a password, and tap Create an account. You can also continue with Apple or Google.

0:26Agreeing to the terms

First, read how your information is looked after. When you're ready, tick the box to agree to the terms, then tap Continue.

0:35Choosing Myself

When the app asks who you're here to support, choose Myself. Then tell us what brings you here. Pick as many as you like. You can add a profile for someone else later.

0:45How you experience the world

Next, choose how you experience the world. It isn't about labels. It helps Pip understand how best to support you.

0:55Notifications and your plan

Choose whether to turn on notifications. Then choose your plan. Your first seven days are free, and you can cancel anytime.

1:03Meeting Pip

You're in. This is the Pip tab, your home in the app. Your name at the top shows you're on your own profile. Tap the box at the bottom and tell Pip what's on your mind, or how your day went. A line is enough. Pip may ask a question to understand more.

1:20Adding reports and letters

Already have reports or letters? Tap the plus button to upload them, like a letter from your psychologist. Pip puts each one into plain language and keeps it in one place. The more you share, the better Pip gets to know you.

1:34Asking Pip to write your About Me

Then, under About You on the Me tab, tap Ask Pip to write your About Me, to share with the people who support you. Pip is a coach, not a doctor.

Can I use Understanding Zoe for myself?

Yes. You can hold a profile for yourself, for a child, or both. When the profile is yours, Pip talks to you as a person.

Do I need a diagnosis to use Understanding Zoe?

No. You can start with or without a formal assessment. The app works from support needs and traits, not labels.

Is Pip a therapist or a doctor?

No. Pip is not a therapist, a counsellor or a doctor. It helps you organise, notice patterns and prepare. For medical questions, speak with your GP or your prescriber.

Can my employer see what I write?

No. Your employer has no access to any employee's Pip chats or personal data. None. An employer sees the difference the benefit makes, in aggregate and anonymised form.

Still stuck? Our help page has more answers, and a real person reads every message.
