Selah Dimech is an AuDHD occupational therapist and founder of Neuraffirm, a practice of lived experience clinicians supporting neurodivergent adults. Homeschooled from Grade 7 to Grade 10, Selah went on to study at university through an alternative entry pathway before finding her way into occupational therapy. Music has also been a big part of her journey. She completed her Grade 8 classical piano exams and began teaching piano at just 14, developing entrepreneurial skills that would later help her build her own practice. Selah brings both her professional knowledge and lived experience to conversations about education, autonomy and neuroaffirming support. Her reflections on homeschooling recognise both the freedom it gave her and the gaps she needed to address later. She is also an Understanding Zoe partner and has written a guest article for the Understanding Zoe blog about what families may want to consider before starting homeschooling.

Is homeschooling the right choice for a neurodivergent child? And what does that experience look like years later?

In this episode, Laetitia is joined by Selah Dimech, an AuDHDer, occupational therapist and founder of Neuraffirm, who was homeschooled from Grade 7 to Grade 10, long before she knew she was neurodivergent.

Selah shares what her homeschooling years were really like, from having the freedom to follow her interests and develop her love of music to the challenges she faced with maths, social connections and adjusting to university.

Together, they explore what homeschooling can offer, what families might need to plan for, and why there isn't one right educational path for every child.

They also talk about building confidence, supporting autonomy and giving children opportunities to explore the world at their own pace, without turning every new experience into another demand.

It's a conversation about listening to your child, staying flexible and finding an approach that works for them.
