How to invite someone to your child's village and choose what they see

2 min · Shown on a phone · Captions on · Transcript below

On the Village tab, tap Invite. Pick the person's role and type their email address. Then set each part to No access, View only or Full access. They see nothing until they say yes. You can change what anyone sees at any time. You can also hide one item.

Using Understanding Zoe for yourself? The steps are the same on your own profile.

Good to know: Pip knows the whole profile. When someone chats with Pip, it may mention an item you hid from them. If something must never come up, leave it out of the app.

Mia's village is the people who support Mia, at home, at school and in care. This video shows how to invite someone, choose what they see, and follow what they add.

0:15Inviting someone and choosing their role

On the Village tab, tap Invite. Pick the person's role, like Family, Therapist or Education professional, then type their email address. The role sets what they see to start with.

0:29Choosing what they see

Change any part to No access, View only or Full access. Full access means they can add things too. Tap Send invite. UZ emails them a link and a code. You can also tap Share invitation to send it yourself, by text or any app you like.

0:48Waiting for them to say yes

Each person has to say yes before they see anything. Until they do, they show with a small hourglass. Tap them to resend the invitation, or revoke it.

0:59Seeing what they add, and changing it

Once someone joins, tap them in the row at the top. The Activity tab shows what they have added, like observations and documents. Tap Permissions to change what they can see, any time. It changes straight away. To take someone out of the village, tap Remove from village.

1:19Hiding a single item

You can also hide a single item. Open an observation, tap Permissions, and switch someone off. They still see Mia's other observations, just not that one.

1:30What Pip knows

Everyone in the village has their own private chats with Pip. But Pip knows the whole profile. So when someone chats with Pip, it may still mention an item you hid from them, or a part set to No access. If something must never come up, leave it out of the app. Start with one or two people you trust, and add more over time. You can change what anyone sees in the app whenever you like. To learn how to tell Pip what happened, watch our video about talking to Pip.

What can a supporter see?

Only what you allow. You set nine categories to None, View or Full for each person. You can also hide a single item from chosen people.

Is anything always shared with a supporter?

Yes, two things. Every supporter can read the profile's About Me. Every supporter can also chat with Pip about the profile.

Do the people I invite have to pay?

No. Supporters join for free. Only you hold the subscription, and it covers every profile on your account.

Can a supporter invite other people?

No. Only the profile owner can invite someone, change what they see, or remove them.

Still stuck? Our help page has more answers, and a real person reads every message.
